Fall 2008
Autumn. Just the name arouses thoughts of warm days, cool nights, and
an array of beautiful color. Living in the San Joaquin Valley will teach
you to appreciate any kind of weather that is not hot, and autumn means the heat
is almost over.
Good things happen in the fall. The World Series of Baseball, the
beginning of football season, pre-season basketball, hockey... For all of
us who love football, autumn is a kind of paradise.
Autumn also means that the holidays will soon be arriving. First,
Thanksgiving, then Christmas. Somehow we seem to skip Thanksgiving and go
right into Christmas, except for an all-day eating binge.
Our spirits should be renewed this autumn because just as the seasons change,
God rebuilds and builds during the change of our life. God brings about
change in the young and old alike; and change is not always bad. The
beautiful Fall colors remind us of changing seasons and that winter is
approaching. Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring all have similarities to the
change in human emotion.
Thank God the "dog days of summer" will soon come to an end, for now.
But they'll be back next June. Soon I'll be complaining about cool days
and long, dark nights.
I believe that every change of season is a reflection of God's love, mercy,
and grace. The beautiful array of colors reminds me of God's handiwork and
imagination. These days also cause me to fall on my knees and thank
God for answered prayer.
I have a loving wife and three wonderful sons. My sons have their own
families now and I am even more blessed to have five grandchildren. Our
church is experiencing God's power and His gentle touch, so what more could I
ask for? Praise God!
What are your thoughts today? Are you bitter? Are you lonely?
Are you angry with God and angry with life? Are there unresolved tensions
in your family? Why not celebrate the Fall season by renewing your
relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ? After all, all
blessings (including autumn!) come from Him.
